The Ambassador to the United States, Carlos Vecchio, warned that Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship is dragging Venezuela into a geopolitical conflict that only benefits him and Putin, and severely harms the entire region.

“Our position is firm: the Venezuelan people are on the side of peace and democracy. It is Maduro, and not the Venezuelan people, who supports Putin in his unjustified military aggression with which he threatens the Ukrainian people,” said Mr. Vecchio in a message released through his Twitter account.
Furthermore, the Venezuelan diplomat rejected Russian hostilities against Ukraine and Venezuela.
Similarly, he condemned that Maduro intends to turn Venezuela into a base of operations for Russia against democracies and the security of the Western Hemisphere, in exchange for Putin supporting him in power illegitimately, giving him weapons and financing to maintain his kleptocratic network.
“Putin’s negative influence in Latin América is getting stronger. The Russian regime has been accused of carrying out espionage activities in several of our countries, of launching cyberattacks, dis-informing and manipulating social networks to promote social conflicts,” warned Vecchio.
Faced with this threat, the Venezuelan ambassador called on all the democratic leaders of the continent to unite to decisively confront these serious threats.
